Alliant Techsystems has signed a $44 million contract to supply the Polish army with cannons for armored cars. The deal is the first time a Western-made gun will be sold to the armed forces of a former member of the Warsaw Pact. Poland currently is a member of NATO, the Western defensive alliance. "

Poland - October 2002

If 12 zlotych is too much for you, you might opt to play a bit of Russian roulette and not buy a tram ticket at all. When you board a tram, nobody checks to make sure you have a ticket. So how are the rules enforced? Officials board trams occasionally to check and see that everyone on board is an honest passenger. So, you might never get checked (we weren't). But if you're unlucky, we were warned of mysterious, unnamed dire consequences.

First hand first impressions of Poland
This source is really valuable so you may as well start here and browse this Live Journal for very fresh info.

On the other hand as a warning you may read Yahoo! Groups : cafepoland Messages : Message 2053 of 2870: "Still alive after 2 1/2 weeks in Poland - July 2002 (smile)"

On the another other hand I've got to update my FAQ for Yahoo! Groups : cafepoland Messages : Message 1332 of 2841: "Everything You Wanted To Know about Poland but were Afraid to Ask"

I fully realise that not everyone who uses the site is going to be a geopolitical psychologist, or even have a basic grasp of North, South, East and West.

"Everything You Wanted To Know about Poland but were Afraid to Ask"

Where is Poland?
How big is it in relation to the rest of Europe?
How do you get there from [asker's location]?
What is its capital?
Where are some of the other towns and how big are they?
Do I need a passport/visa to get there? If so, which ones?
How many tourists were there in 2001?
How many people actually live there?
[and a few more about statistical type things]
What is the weather like-is it true that it's always dreary, rainy and cold?
What are some dates in Polish history?
Who governs/leads the country?
What are some of the main political parties?
Who are the artists, writers, musicians and other creative people?
Where is there some good entertainment?
Where are some good places to stay?

Ad nauseum,

Adelaide La Blanche-Dupont
